Had Brands known the job was going to be available sooner rather than later I don’t think he wouldve taken the job at VT. I am pretty certain there was no misunderstanding that if Iowa came calling, Brands was going to be gone at the drop of the hat. FWIW without Brands coming to VT who knows if we are even where we are at now. Iowa knew what was up and probably sped up the timeline in getting rid of Zaleski after seeing Brands haul at VT.

In the end I think Iowa admin/Gable are the ones people should be upset with. Seems like this was all their plot all along. Brands chased his dream of coaching at his old school and Metcalf and co. went with the guy they chose to wrestle for from the jump.

Am I a fan of Brands? No, but I also don’t necessarily blame him or the kids at the time.
